Have You Wondered How To Get Followers?

By Rahul Navlakha

You have accomplished your first major dream of your life. You now hold your first book contract in your hands. The one little problem is that the publishers have asked that you join Twitter as part of your marketing plan. The thing that makes you nervous is that you have no idea how to get followers. And what is the point of being on Twitter if you have no followers?

One of the first things you will want to do once you join Twitter is to fill out your profile. Make sure what you say in the profile reflects who you are as an author. Put your picture up as an avatar. People love to put a face with a name.

Announce on your other social networks that you would like to be followed on Twitter. You can do this several times. Twitter also allows you to send your updates to other social networks. This too will help friends remember that you want to be followed. Adding your Twitter link to your e-mail signature is another thing you can do to help. As time goes by, you will want to post on Twitter itself that you are always looking for more followers.

Along those same lines, put a Twitter widget on any blog or website you might have. People interested in you or your work just might want to follow you.

Follow everyone who follows you. Also the site always gives you suggestions on whom to follow. Look through that and follow everyone who looks intriguing.

Twitter is something a lot of people like to play to around on when they know they should be working, but do not have the strength to do the tasks in front of them. Links to blog entries or other web articles are quite popular. Of course, this also increases your readership which always helps an author.

This might go without saying, but put a link to your account on your website. This is the same principle as linking to your blog or anything else. The more exposure you give your account the more people who might follow you.

Which brings up another good point, people on Twitter often follow people that follow them. So follow everyone that you can. Twitter even suggests people you can follow right on your homepage. Be sure to look through this at least every day.

However, the best way to get followers is to be active on Twitter yourself. Get on Twitter as you begin working each day, and post every time you need a break. Reply to people. Try to get people addicted to the things you say. That is how to get followers.
