Save your money and buy one with a separate underwater housing- wish I had now. The initial instructions for charging the battery and setup and initializing of the camera do not work with a Mac. I had to call tech support to find out that you cannot charge the battery on the Mac; you must use the adapter [provided] and a wall outlet.
We thought it was just a glitch and moved on. Sincerely, I love it...got it and the next day took it white water rafting, it was dropped, hit, smashed, dunked...and nothing stopped it from working, taking great pictures and videos and still looking brand new. My friends went out to get one of their own! The much lower light level means things have to be *still*. Had fabulous underwater pictures and videos, along with water close pictures like snorkeling and beach pictures. Blue water and colorful fish were amazing in pictures.
I would absolutely recommend this camera. This camera takes pretty good quality photos. I used the camera the same way I did with my friend's camera and water seeped into the camera. After the third snorkeling session (camera no deeper than arm's length below the surface) and probably no more than 90 minutes in the water, the Olympus Stylus Tough 6020 camera died. Screen just flashes on and off.
This camera has proved waterproof in the ocean, freeze proof on a glacier-filled mountain, just wish it was sand/dustproof for the beach. I would recommend this camera to any of my friends who want a durable, small, outdoorsy camera. It cost more to fix these cameras than to buy a new one. So far our Tough cameras keep working even after rough use.
I give this camera 5 STARS and a big thumbs up! It also seems the time between shots takes longer.
So far we love that camera. Better build quality, better picture quality, and better user interface. Once I removed and reinserted the battery, the pictures would come out clear again. I was very disappointed and did not even attempt an underwater shot.
Hey, if you have it on macro, of course the picture will be blurry, if you're taking a picture of the sunset...learn how the camera works before giving it a horrible review. The pictures come out great, as long as you have all the right settings.
