Different Types Of ID Coders

By Keren Kipfer

Number markings on the labels of products can help in traceability of these products, and this is used in a number of industries particularly in all types of foods and many beverages. There are special machines that help in this process adding these codes and identification numbers. The objective of this ID technology is to provide data and information and make tracing of products easy in case of possible future concerns. The printers that apply these IDs onto product packages are known sometimes as ID coders and sometimes as ID printers. Manufacturers can have choices of these machine types because there several to choose.

Data that helps in the identification process, like production or expiration dates as well as serial numbers and other data are the pieces of information printed by these id coder machines. Surface types like plastic packaging, cardboard boxes, glass, Mylar and other packing material types can be difficult to print on, but these machine coders will do the printing easily. Fast printing and inks that dry rapidly are accomplished by these ID coders. When there are product concerns, easy tracing and tracking can be done, and this is provided by the number coding on the labels.

These id coders and printers can be the CIJ type or the continuous ink jet coder or the DOD type, which is the drop on demand coder. The CIJ printer produces a stream of small ink droplets which are the means to print the numbers on the product labels. Unused ink droplets are cycled back and reused in printing. DOD printers use a print head with open nozzles and electrical pulse is used in the printing process. Each of these machine printer types has its advantages and also disadvantages, and it's only for the buyer to choose which is to his benefit.

The CIJ technology as well as CIJ printers has been in existence for years already while the DOD type is newer and a bit more modern. The DOD machine printer and coder produces the high resolution prints which companies might need. With the CIJ type, ink is continuously circulated in the printer and with the DOD, ink is only used when needed in printing. The DOD printer machine technology is much simpler but the fine nozzles of the DOD print head meanwhile are more demanding in the design process, which can increase the costs of purchasing this type of id printer.

Refurbished id printing machines are available however, and still produce excellent results and high resolution prints. These are far cheaper than new coders and a big savings can be expected by buyers when buying these refurbished printing machines. Many companies sell these refurbished machines like the Domino coders, Willet coders, Video Jet coders and other brands. Companies can expect great printing results and also get good savings by buying these refurbished printing machines. Repairs of printing machines can also be expected from these companies and many sell replacement parts.

ID printing products companies, like PrintJet.net, sell refurbished print and coder machines but they also sell generic ink aside from these machines. Print inks like Videojet ink, Domino ink, Imaje ink, Maxima ink and other ink brands are available from this company. This is an advantage to users because ink is a recurring expense, and using high-quality generic ink and make-up will save you a lot of money.
